Good points made. Happy Boys didn't entirely click with me either - it had it's entertaining moments but still lacked that neccessary something. I think you hit the nail on the head with zany, it lacked that extra humour that I think benefits a story built like this one.

Cafe Kichijouji was a really fun title too, with great art also. I should go back and revisit that one, it's certainly been a while!

Surprisingly as much as I like Makoto Tateno, this book didn't click with me. The boys were pretty but not spectactular, the stories okay, but kind of dialing it in. I like my butler/cafe stories a little more zany and would recommend Cafe Kichijouji de over Happy Boys.
